Premier Learning Unit 1.0 - LCMS Print E-mail
Saturday, 01 October 2005

Premier Go ProgramPremier Agendas Ltd. is an education services company located in Langley, BC, Canada, specialized in developing student success and character development programs.

Premier Learning Unit (PLU) 1.0 was a Learning Content Management System (LCMS) for online delivery of Premier's course content to their client high-schools throughout  US and Canada.

In this model, Premier would enter course content into the system, then thousands of  students and teachers were given access, so they could go through the lessons, conduct quizzes and surveys and printout reports. Premier also used this environment to deliver their monthly newsletter to teachers and school administrators.

PLU 1.0 was used successfully for one year to deliver “Premier Go”, one of Premier's flagship student character development programs.

The following year, this experience lead to the PLU 2.0 project, when two of Premier's online courses, “Premier Get Set” and “Premier Go” programs were delivered to thousands of students in North America.

PLU 1.0 was developed as a Mambo CMS component which was back then, the best framework for developing our project. The PLU data model was based on a simplified version of IMS Global Standard. Some of the features in this LCMS were as following:

  • ability to manage virtual schools and classrooms
  • user Access Control List (ACL) for School Administrators, Teachers, and Students.
  • ability to conduct quizzes and surveys, and create reports
  • ability to deliver course content using online videos, text and downloadable documents.

PLU 2.0 was later on developed as a component for Joomla! CMS . Joomla 1.5 has a Model-View-Controller (MVC) software architecture with a superior libraries and API compare to Mambo CMS.
