RubberDoc

Project Year: 2010

Using the RubberDoc Joomla extension, it is very easy to upload a large number of documents ( PDF, Excel, Word, … ) and assign them to different articles within the Joomla or present them as categories of documents or even generate RSS feeds of files.

These documents can either be made available publicly or be restricted to registered users and administrators only. This project has been inspired by our client, Social Planning & Research Council of British Columbia (SPARC BC) , who will be using this extension on their soon to be launched website which is also developed by rmd Studio and it’s associates.

RubberDoc was developed because other similar extensions were neither available for the native Joomla! 1.5 nor provided a simple and user friendly administration interface for the SPARC BC’s staff. In it’s first month of release, RubberDoc has been downloaded more than 1500 times.

  1. Using the Ajax file uploader you can quickly upload a batch of files to the server.
  2. Ability to edit document details such as Name, Alias, Published state, Description, Meta Data, and assign the document to a category. This way you are basically defining an uploaded file as a record stored in the database.
  3. Ability to assign your uploaded documents to different categories. This extension uses Joomla’s default category manager.
  4. RubberDoc is developed so it works nicely with the Joomla! 1.5’s native menu manager. You can create menu items to “Categories” or “Category” views.
  5. RubberDoc also keeps track of the number of downloads for each document.
  6. You can configure how to display a list of documents within a category in the front-end. For example you can choose to display or hide table columns representing Number of Downloads or Files Sizes.
  7. Create RSS feeds and they can be used for many different purposes. You can blog in files for instance and publish your monthly newsletter in pdf files. Your visitors can subscribe to your feeds using their RSS reader of choice.
